This site was an invaluable resource for my research on my own Roots of Led Zeppelin project, and it's only gotten better over time!

I think part of the reason that Led Zeppelin has gotten so much flak is because of their popularity through the years. Not only has their music been in the public eye for so long, allowing for more and closer scrutiny, but as it becomes a certain kind of social badge - to know of Led Zeppelin is to be cool and informed - there arises in opposition to that a set of detractors who resent the popularity of the group. And so by latching onto these accusations of plagiarism, they can effectively, in their own minds, reduce Led Zeppelin to simple thieves worthy of little to no artistic merit. This viewpoint satisfies their own desires, but couldn't be farther from the truth.

I've always maintained (as many others have) that despite what Led Zeppelin borrowed, and whether or not they were open about their influences, the impact they had on the music scene was immense, and unquestionable. In nearly (if not) every case of "stealing" a song, Led Zeppelin has created something wholly new and original within the context of the classic. And perhaps that's part of what they were thinking when they chose to credit themselves when they did.

The bottom line is, even if you want to slap the band on the wrist - and they may or may not deserve it - you can not honestly argue away the innovation they brought to the music scene, and the appreciation they deserve for their talents as musicians.

With that in mind, I like to encourage the search for knowledge and truth, free from personal bias. Hopefully people will be able to educate themselves in such a manner with help from pages like these!

From an unknown Michael Bloomfield song, titled Roots - "do you know where you're coming from? What went down in your daddy's day is still coming down on you."
