Featured Artist of the Month:
Screaming Trees

Even though they were often lumped in with the Seattle grunge scene of the 1990s, the Screaming Trees were influenced more by psychedelia than that association would suggest. Combining the best of the Doors and the Stooges, the Screaming Trees could trip out and rock out. Listen for Screaming Trees tracks throughout the month of September on "Turn Me On, Dead Man"!

Special Show

Turn Off Your Mind,
Relax and Float Downstream

Sunday, October 1, 2006
10:00 PM eastern time

Variations on "Tomorrow Never Knows" by the Beatles. "Tomorrow Never Knows" was the Beatles' first psychedelic song, and it's a fascinating listen with its sitar drone, tape loops, and backward and variable-speed sound effects, not to mention the heady lyrics. This show features cover versions, tracks with samples from "Tomorrow Never Knows" or that otherwise make reference to the song, as well as excerpts from Timothy Leary's album The Psychedelic Experience: Readings from the Book The Psychedelic Experience, based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead, which was intended as a guide for those using LSD. The Psychedelic Experience inspired John Lennon to write "Tomorrow Never Knows."

The first broadcast of "Turn Off Your Mind, Relax and Float Downstream" will be Sunday, October 1, 2006, at 10:00 PM eastern time, and will repeat over the next couple of weeks. Check this page for rebroadcast times.
